El Instituto de Fisica cuenta con una infraestructura de cómputo y comunicaciones acorde a los avances tecnológicos para atender las necesidades de  los investigadores, estudiantes de posgrado, personal académico y administrativo.

El Centro de Cómputo del Instituto está formado por tres técnicos académicos y un investigador como responsable del área, este grupo de personas se encarga de administrar la red de comunicaciones y los recursos de cómputo. Dentro de sus actividades más importantes se encuentran:

Planear y administrar la red local y su conexión a Internet.

Instalar, configurar, mantener equipo de comunicaciones, servidores, estaciones de trabajo, computadoras personales, computadoras portátiles y dispositivos periféricos.

Actualizar hardware, sistemas operativos y software de aplicaciones.

El sistema operativo de Linux y el desarrollo de software libre ha dado respuesta a muchas demandas de la comunidad científica, actualmente la administración de la red local y parte del cálculo numérico del Instituto está basado en este sistema operativo.

Competencias Técnicas

Planeación y administración de redes ethernet.

Instalación de sistemas operativos Unix (HP Tru 64, Irix), Linux y Windows.

Construcción de clusters de PCs con Linux.

Actualizar hardware, sistemas operativos y software de aplicaciones.

Configuración de aplicaciones tipo servidor (NFS, NIS, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, Samba y E-Mail).

Cursos de instalación, configuración y administración de Unís, Linux y Windows.
