Non-equilibrium thermodynamics

Participants: Pedro Ezequiel Ramírez, Edilio Lázaro Lázaro, Magdaleno Medina Noyola, Patricia Mendoza

The standard statistical thermodynamics is a theory for equilibrium states, all its concepts imply that the system find a stationary state which maximizes the entropy. Despite this theoretical framework is very useful, the time never is taken into account. However, in many real situations, the material needs to pass through many transient states before find the equilibrium state. Describe the evolution of a system from an initial state to the final state is the objective of the non-equilibrium thermodynamics. In our group we are trying to contribute in the developing of a standard non-equilibrium thermodynamics which can deal with complex relaxation processes
